lawyers

I got a call from a lawyer friend yesterday and told me he wanted to meet to discuss some issues that require my expertise. So, we met a coffee shop at noon with a couple of his other lawyer friends. Most of them were deemed 'notorious' because they are known to fight for indigenous communities against the powers-that-be, especially in regards to land development and customary rights issues. Anyways, there I was listening to them talk about their experiences, individual cases and arguing the "right" or "illegal" sections in the law (I didn't know such things exist). What amazes me most is their ability to continuously talk and talk without noticeable punctuation marks! Worse still, they never seem to come to a conclusion or a decision on certain matters. When the topic came to my field of (so-called) expertise, I just had to wrap it in 10 minutes and that was it. We all agreed with the decision.

Now, I think I understand why the Courts need a judge.
