jakarta
Flew into this wonderful city today for unfortunately only the night. Off to Palangkaraya tomorrow morning to attend a convention. Jakarta is a wonderful city and quite huge! I was told there are more than 15 million people inhabiting this city and of course, breathing its heavily polluted air. But the social ambience around the city is quite interesting and everyone's basically eke-ing out to make a living. Everyone's constantly on the move as if life doesn't wait for them. It is in places like this - the other is Phnom Penh - that I see the real human, living in a condition that is unhumanely created for them by the powers-that-be. Sharing the same road is the BMW 7s and the trishaw, each carving its niche to enable them to move on. And the people moving on the street is just incredible! Can't really describe it yet. And since I'll only be here for one night, it's way too early for me to make a critical personal analysis of their situation. But I'd return when the time and money permits. As for now (i.e. tomorrow), the objective is to get to Palangkaraya!
